Yes, he’s Jewish. His birth name is Joseph Levitch and he was born in New Jersey. So we Jews don’t just get to claim highbrow comedians like Woody Allen and Lenny Bruce. But is Jerry Lewis secular? Is he a hero (if you are not French)? I don't know, he's not high on my list.
